Hockey Helmet Hurts My Head

Hi, I've been wearing the same helmet for 2 weeks now, my head feels so tightened and it hurts above my ears I bought a Bauer IMS helmet 5.0 and I am a 12yo I dunno if all helmets are like that, or its just mine. During practice, I would have to go to the bench and take the helmet off. It's the helmet width that's hurting my head on the length if I adjust it just makes my chin not touch the bottom, Please help.

Btw I have a rather round head.

Helmets are like skates. They have different fit profiles; some are round, some are more oval. Sounds like this helmet doesn't fit your head. Try a different helmet

Check if your cage is squeezing the sides of your helmet. If it is, you can try stretching your cage it a little bit by pulling on the sides. Otherwise, you may need a different helmet.

Sounds like you need a wider helmet. I would look at the reakt 95. When it comes to helmets though, you have to try them on so try to make it by your local shop if you have one.

Look at the CCM Tacks helmets. I had a Bauer 5100 and had the same issue as you. Switched to a CCM 710 because they are much more round in fit and it's night and day different.

As a fellow round-header, I recently got a Bauer reakt 95 and my head hurt for the first 5 or 6 wears. It was mainly pressure on my temples and just like OP, I had to take the helmet off during skates to give my head a break. After that it's been perfect. Not sure if this is good advice, just my experience.

My 6yo has the same issue. Apparently Warrior has a wider model. Just need to go to the shop and try them on. I wouldn't try manipulating the helmet to stretch it out as you may cause damage and lose protection. In my opinion, the helmet, along with skates and stick, are the three things you shouldn't take chances with.

Don't forget to adjust the cage/bowl too. The chin not touching isn't a huge deal but I'd ask your local pro shop to help with sizing. There's always different fits for helmets so you may have to get a different helmet whether it is more narrow or round.

Since you've said it hurts the side of your head it might be too small and if increasing the length doesn't help (hopefully not compromising the fit) I would seek a size up. The Bauer IMS 5.0 is a round fit in general but you should see if going up a size and maybe shortening (if needed) feels better. It could also just be your hair taking up space and creating more pressure but I feel that checking out different helmets in person would be my first move. Let me know if I missed anything.

I used to have the same IMS 5.0 helmet and it hurt my head too. I switched to the Re-akt 75 and have zero problems with tight spots or pressure anymore. You'll have to go in person and try on a bunch of different helmets. They're all slightly different and fit different heads.

I have the same helmet. It only has a length adjustment. Also, consider that it's the lowest priced Bauer at 75 (Canadian) including the cage as a package deal. The other half of this problem is the weight. Although not unbrarably heavy, that extra couple of ounces and the way the foam padding is all dense without an ultra soft layer makes the fatigue factor noticable, especially if you're playing a game on a day where you're not well rested or have extended ice time. I just replaced that model and noticed a difference, although it's only been one skills session of use.

If you put it on a ball in hot sun, the helmet will get slightly bigger. Someone I know tested it it works
